I'm going to have to agree with much of what the other's posts have said.
This was not a "Beta" this more like not just an Alpha but...a rather bad Alpha.
I get it that the Utherverse company does not have the staff nor financial clout of big gaming studio like Bethesda, Rockstar or so on. I suspect there is not enough of either to support any significant playtesting other than by a small group of insiders and devs. Couple this reality with the over-hyped nature of the "release" and Utherverse's past history of (no other way to put this) "crash and burn" failures it's not surprising so many are not happy with what's been done.
Best example of this may have been on the first first release the first problem found was many/most could not enter via a "standard" log in procedure. That suggests to me mostly devs "tested" and used back doors to get in. Looks like that anyways.
This goes hand in hand with the how information is communicated to the non-insider world. The word for how this has been done is abysmal..it's all over the place fragmented, often out of date or if accessed now, are dead links. The over-hype just made it so much worse. All the effort put into the game-linked crypto is time/money NOT being spent on world development and it shows.
I DO think the vision is good, intentions are good and i've put money on the line, "investing" if you will, by pre-purchase of VIP time in this new world, and 2 Gen2 Trunks. Well above $1k USD. A first rule of investing is to NOT invest more than you can afford to lose and frankly i'm thinking i may need to divest here and recoup what i can. I haven't yet but may yet put my 2 trunks up for sale...at steep discount.
At this point, if it were me, i'd say a HUGE hold should be put on "Gold" group entry pending some fast updating. Last thing Utherverse needs is more bad publicity and public relations. My UVIP here expires in a few months and after 13 years it may be time to pull out.

How many people on rlc/utherverse pay out of pocket? is elc/utherverse even sustainable now that roughly 500 people log in? And where is it showing that the average person who does these sights are all working people? Yes I can come up with the money for my vip....but just barely, because disability isn't like a regular paycheck, and I have had a regular paycheck while on here. The base code for RLC is more than 15 years old. It may be possible, at RLC leadership's discretion, to back-port all of the existing RLC content into the new game, but maintaining the old code is at this point a task that is not fiscally viable. A very difficult hard truth here. I know Brian has made some promises and i think he is sincere but even good things i like...end.
The coming version...i can only hope really, finally works.

I really do think Brian/Kendrick and all intended this Beta program to "do the right thing". They had a plan, apparently, and truth is they could devise ANY plan they want to allow users and potential users into a Beta Test for a new software package.
Yes, it would have been better to have this more publically known prior to and yes a bit more clear would have be even better.
Despite that, folks who missed the message or decided to not take advantage of such information as WAS available were given yet another opportunity to participate via this kind of "contest" to give those folks in the "Gold" group earlier access. They seem to want to work it into publicity for what's to come.
They say no good deed goes unpunished. I don't know what to say to naysayers, they operate on their own frequency, to their own agenda. Got nothing for them.
I do wish very much and i've said this all along that i wish Utherverse were a bit more transparent, a bit more forthcoming, and bit more realistic in how they are co-ordinating what most of us hope is a successful launch of the new Metaverse they are building.
I myself DID pay attention and opted to take advantage of a prior offer and while i might have been a Gold, i am therefore now also a Red. It's not that important since i'm also a Gold and...something else before or after that too since i'm a Gen2 Trunk holder.
I'd gladly relinquish my "Red" slot to someone who otherwise cannot participate and who COULD postively contribute to this effort. I know i'll get there eventually. It's ok.
Kendrick, Plixton, Sweet Guy, if any of you know of someone left out who COULD be positive...they can take that slot just let me know.
I'm just so darn tired of all the negative waves here. It's increasingly not fun to be here.

Reading thru the posts...the usual suspects
|
According to the Cambridge On-Line Dictionary:
"a list of people or things that are considered by a particular authority or group to be acceptable and that should be trusted"
I would hazard a guess that this will be a list of folks selected by Utherverse Mgt or Devs that are granted permission they have not specifically requested. I'd would think these could "Influencers", people recognized by peers as significant in Web3, crypto, and Metaverses.
Maybe not Mark Zuckerberg though ??

As a general rule i dislike excessive quoting, especially how it's handled on these Forums but i just HAD to post some excerpts from a column that really sums up how i feel (listed below), and what i've been saying here and on Discord all along. Yes it's edited for length some, go scroll back if you want to read the whole thing again.
This rollout is CLEARLY an "alpha" stage run. It's ASTOUNDING that it broke right away and seem to be broken in how people log in. Like nobody tried this before? We're not een talking a mass stress test, these are most likely folks who otherwise hang around the (virtual?) office. It's going into the 4th day and it's still broken. I think we have a problem here.
This might seem harsh, but it would be FINE if this were handled as a alpha test matter but it's come after a LOT of hype and promotion that at the very least led a lot of people to believe they'd have been in this new world last Tuesday.
Like Michael159 i believe the real "fail" here is not the coding or the efforts those working on the project. The "fail" is that what we have here is...A FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE (apologies to Cool Hand Luke). At least not effectively. It's been haphazard, all over the place and a lot of it on Discord which is great for folks to pass memes back and forth but is NOT a place where Customer Service goes to flourish. Let me say thought, there are VERY good and helpful folks on the Discord and can't say enough about how grateful i am for their help.
I got to RLC in 2010, it had been around a while even then but one recollection i clearly have was that the product was presented then and for sometime as being continually in "beta". Every Tuesday we'd get a patch fixing some fool thing and breaking two more. Was frustrating then but looking back i really have to laugh. Glitches like when many of us had head with just eyeballs and teeth...that was spooky.
This could be like that, maybe it will, but is suspect overall the stakes are higher this time around. It's past time for Utherverse to get "professional" in how it communicates and to do so EVENLY across platforms. This process would be SO much easier if they would.
Katrin VesuvinoOriginally Posted by: michael59 If this needed to stay as a private alpha test, which is what it appears to still be, then we should have just been told that. I have participated in beta testing for over 30 years as an IT professional, and the most effective way to manage beta testing is to explain what the process for testing is going to be, provide transparent status reports on where things stand and what is being worked on. Just tell the truth works the best.
I dislike using discord, like a lot of the other things I have had to do to find out wtf is going on with this beta test and new platform. But I do log in and read the posts.
It sure would cut down on a lot of the speculation and confusion if someone would just have been honest about what the process was going to be and let everyone know wtf is going on in this forum and not just keep things updated on discord or within a small circle of discord users. I am not that upset about the process of letting users in at a manageable pace. You can argue about who should be first, etc. But to not be clear on how the selection process was done and only post it on discord really does this community and forum a disservice.
What really bothers me the most is this that those of us who have participated and supported this platform financially for years, (never was a basic member) in my case over 16 years, are not able to get clear answers to basic questions that are being asked and have been told to go to discord to get them answered.
At least put up a status page of where things stand and keep it updated. I don’t think that is asking too much.
Guys, you are running out of runway. To be taken seriously requires that you actually be serious, otherwise it just confirms all the negative posts and comments are really not off base. And this is really just more of the same.
That is about as nice as I can say it.

I too am a Gold, most of my RLC friends i've talked to are Gold.
So far the only non-Gold people i've seen commentwere all on the Discord channel.
Brian dropped by late (PST) last night to briefly chat. I'd say the intention to slowly build up population invited is the plan they have. I'm not sure if the intention is to have a continuously running "Beta" or not. We'll see.
Though i am not particularly a fan of Discord as a platform, right now it's the best place to get information and live/real time help on issues of moving into the Beta as well as the crypto concept. Some very nice and helpful folks are there.

Kendrick,
Thank you for the update here, should have been sooner/bigger but i'm glad its started. Again, a suggestion would be to close this to all comments, maybe diect that elsewhere.
The thread WILL get derailed like so many others.

This is an interesting development. Found this article that seems to indicate the Unity CEO was actively selling off stock in the weeks before the announcement, after which Unity stock prices basically tanked.https://kotaku.com/unity-develop...;utm_source=kotaku_email

Kendrick, if you're still following this thread (and i hope Mr Shuster is too!), i REALLY think what most residents of the current Utherverse, RLC, need is a thread consisting of JUST information.
What's needed is a thread CLOSED to all comments. Just the information you and Utherverse managment feel is important to know about the changes coming.
I think it's unfair to expect people to wade through all the comments and inter-personal fighting by the same half-dozen of so who besides quoting each other endlessly, themselves mostly just post the same complaints over and over.
It's just not fair to others looking to find out what is going on with the current RLC, the Closed Beta, and whatever the future holds.
It should be clear by now many people are not going to Twitter, YouTube or Discord for information. There are staff apparently assigned to "moderate" this Forum. This should not be hard to do.
For myself, i'm not getting any younger and becoming dis-illusioned with the whole darn thing. After 13 years here, i'm wondering just what the heck i'm doing here.
