Don't want to be a full-time pro on the RLC circuit, don't have the time for that. But what programs do I need and what other things do I need to worry about if I want to run a live streaming club show (music and DJ commentary audio) now and then for a few hours at the clubs/lounges/zabys like the experts are doing?

I've done a cursory look around here for tips and haven't had much luck, nor have I had the chance to pick my boy DJ Passionsporn for tips.

Any links or suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

you can creat a stream here: http://www.listen2myradio.com/ (its free) and put the serverdata into Winamp Shoutcast (thats a free plugin, sorry dont know where to download).

then put the link to your stream onto your profile.
e.g. http://jennyger.listen2myradio.com/

thats a very easy way, but works good Wink

yeah some ppl use winamp / the shoutcast streaming plugin to DJ (i have no idea how they do that tho, but its free if you can figure it out)

most here use the SAM Broadcaster (not free, although someone might be able to get it to you free)

personally i use VirtualDJ (not free either)

so you do have a few choices...
i think windows media player has a streaming plugin also but i dont know how that works either lol

also you can ask around if you need a server to stream to...
i know a few DJs who use HotLixx and/or Rogues
i pay someone for the stream i use but i had to ask around to find out Smile

if your serious about bein a DJ, there are a number of venues that will provide SAM Broadcaster for free. Just go into any venue, ask for the person in charge of the music *yes, a good private venue will have a music manager* and talk to them about tryin your hand at the DJ thing. It sounds easy, but trust me, it can be hell keepin up with requests and dedications, especially if they're constantly askin for stuff that you don't already have downloaded. Also, some venues want you to stick to one genere of music *rock, country, etc* ... while other venues will let you play anything you want. Ya gotta pick and choose. It takes a LOT of time, and a LOT of goin into places to see if you can contact music managers or club owners. You can't just wake up one morning, think, 'hey, i wanna try bein a DJ on RLC.' ... and the next second ya got 3 gigs. It doesn't work that way ... loll

I have only one issue to raise on this subject. If you play music on your station you would surely need a license to be legal. Performers these days are getting more protective about their copyright, and surely anyone who play unlicensed music is open to legal action.

that may be true,
but as far as i know there is no real way to tell if somebody is playing a legal copy of a song or not just by hearing it...

If you want to be a DJ, it is important to have a great DJ mixing software. You may want to take a look at http://www.clubdjpro.com/ to find the best DJ software out there. Have a good day!

I've DJ'd in many clubs and I have NEVER found a venue that gives you SAMS for free.

When I started DJ'ing about 3 years ago, I was given a "cracked" version of SAMS (did not come from a venue)..which went kaput on me and I had to purchase a new one..which was 300 bucks. Nobody is gonna give that away for free...

When you're booked to DJ in a club, they expect you to have your shit together and ready to play. They don't offer to set you up with everything you need.

So, Rich..tell us which venues offer SAMS for free?

Mixxx is free an does what you said your not going to do actual mixxing and manipulation of the music with looping ab beat sync and all that crap but someday you might so its worth mentioning.

If you just want to play music and talk have i got a deal for you

https://www.watch2gether.com

other than verifying your email select your favorite YouTube or other and your live streaming any where all day any day.Copy the url from your browser and use it in game in a prop with script attach web browser. Youl now have a lovely echo so turn off the sound of one of them

2 catches
#1 other RLC members have to click join room to activate the player for them just like clicking play no big deal
and
#2 mic audio has not been tested so just plug in a mic so you hear it and open sound mixer and see if rlc slider shows activety in synce with yur talking.

start to finish you can be *cough DJing in about 5 minutes for free.

The thread is old, but the question still stands... now it's me in Feb 2020 asking!

Having done the DJ thing in real life for 12 years, I am not sure if I want to put the time and work involved, but I definitely want to know how to do it, also to set my own music in my Zaby.

Mixx is a freeware DJ software that works pretty good. I tinkered with it for awhile, and hooked it up to a cheap stream at one point.
I don't have time to DJ and wasnt going to pay for SAMS but did want to see if I could get it to work.

There was a .dll tweak you had to do and also it only worked with either Icecast or Shoutcast (I can't remember which LOL ) but it really wasnt too hard and it does have all the features of true DJ software.

https://www.mixxx.org/ is where you can get it.

Adding the mp3 codec yourself because licensing rules company's vs individuals is what Utherverse should be doing with the mp4 restriction in Attach Web Browser
