I'll try to answer some of these the best I can.
I may be getting ahead of myself here, since I can't actually get into the world yet, but I'm already plotting a course for future plans. And I have a few questions that would help make decisions.
1. Are there IC/OOC conventions in general or in certain locations? From what I've seen you've got a whole range of types, from those who log in to make RL contacts to those who wholly immerse themselves in fantasy. And those who came to meet 'real' people may like to banter all over, and those who came for fantasy may like to skip the banal chatter and stay focused on the context. So are there certain customs for maintaining that separation between real and virtual?
There are so many different "rooms", dimensions, etc... for people to congregate in. The interesting thing about RLC is that the "fantasizers" and the "rl'ers" usually hang together. Everyone in a way, is here for fantasy of some kind. Some may just want a slightly more active sex life, others may be trying new things. Even the ones that end up meeting in rl still come here for the chance to get away from "reality", and RLC provides that opportunity.
It is because of this that you will very often see the roleplayers standing right alongside the non-roleplayers. This is just one big community.
2. Businesses. If you open a shop, do you also get VIP priviledges with the package, or do you have to get VIP before even being able to open a business? What if you want to see how the revenue potential is before committing to VIP?

3. Affiliates. Sure, I came here to promote my own site. And the more I see of RLC, the more it looks like something I'd like to support. Again, is VIP access part of the package? And is poaching membership back to my own playground considered a dealbreaker if I'm encouraging my own userbase to get into RLC? Given the differences and similarities of the settings and themes, I don't think cross-pollination would be a bad thing, but RLC may be more possessive of their users than BoB.
The affiliate program has no connection to your VIP status. You can be green eternally and still be an affiliate. Essentially, the affiliate program consists of banner ads and word of mouth. You tell a friend, they use their name when signing up, you get the credit. If THEY go VIP, you get money. You can usually place your banners anywhere you want, so paste away!
