I have collected some amazing car textures I display that I don't share in respect for the artist, (as often as I am begged to do so) from artists over the years in rlc and built a number of my own, often on commissions by clients who could not find anyone else to attempt such a project.
In my recent stint as a Zaby home show judge, the illuminating thing that was quickly apparent is the brain drain in Utherverse on deco.
Layouts to be judged showed a huge dichotomy of skills and talent. Those with much experience & great skills in lighting and scale, and 'logic' (I mean logic as realistic when meant to be realistic, and fantasy when meant to be fantasy) that entered layouts I would (if mine0 I would not have entered myself. bUT HELL, YOU HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE!
This reflects a large amount of talent that has left RLC but can be brought back through practice, time & education. So we need to come back from out of the dark ages into a new utherverse Renaissance.
I constantly teach others how i do it and to assist friends when asked.
Several great car designers had amazing skills, such as Lil Girl Daf who sadly passed away far too young and Veronika_SC who is alive and well and living in Poland in painting a standard stock BMW sedan prop transforming into Maserati four seat convertible, a Lamborghini (Lamborghini?...you read so what, but how about with opened wing doors and full interiors?), Aston Martin DB-7's. I collect and save these for posterity in my car collections.
Other than that, one must 'kit bash' different associated props into a sexy automobile that is unique. The textures themselves by contrast to the first ones I mentioned, having rather unremarkable textures, but are arranged carefully in a way to form the graceful lines making a classic car recognizable virtually.
Hand built are expensive and I do that deliberately to weed out those who are serious and more, building a custom car is very very labor intensive.
