I am trying to make a cape for a costume. Using the 'long coat' map. Each time I try applying a texture to it, it either comes up as the same ugly brown trench coat...or completely invisible where i have no texture on it. Is there a trick to this? Or, maybe I am using the wrong map? Any help would be wonderful, thanks in advance

Hi there. Is this for the women's long coat? And is your avi new style?

I've only used the Long Coat once but I will try to help.

First off, you should be using the HF_Upperbody_Longcoat map, I believe.

When you upload the texture set the parameters as follows:

Set avatar type to New style
Gender - Female
Model category - Female torso
Model - Long coat w/skin
Layer - Clothing
"Decal" shouldn't show up since you are choosing Clothing as the layer.

Setting layer to Skin and Decal to clothing can make some weird things happen as it will sort of try to apply it like it would for skinny top, on your torso like a second skin.
This is useful for putting an underlayer on under the coat to mask any bleed-through/gaps but not for what you're doing.
If you have significant chunks of the map not filled in like you would for a cape you might end up seeing nothing at all in that case.

I am not sure what the diff is between Long Coat and Long Coat w/skin but there might be other posts here in the forum that would explain that that you could find with a search.

I used Long Coat w/skin for this one I made that uses the map that you are working with:

I hope that helps and good luck!
Cel

Thank you Cel, I have done what you've described but am still having the same issue. No matter what setting I use, still showing as that 'default' (?) long brown coat in world. It's as if its not taking the texure at all. Frustrating. Thank you so much for your help !

I just tried it myself to see if it was even doable (some of the clothing really doesn't like being cut up LOL) and it worked for me, see below.
I used the parameters I mentioned above on a back chunk of an old unfinished red coat.

All I can think of now is maybe you should delete and rebuild the outfit, or clear your cache or something.
I'd probably try rebuilding the outfit first, if that didnt work make a new outfit AND reupload the texture, and if those don't work maybe clear your cache.
Sorry it is giving you such a headache!
