I'm looking to try to create a scene with a pulsing light - not a flashing one! - so it gets progressively brighter and darker. Short of doing this manually is there a way of doing this so it pulses automatically?

It depends on whether you want to pulse the brightness of a prop that can be represented by a single prop map, or pulse the brightness of an entire scene.

For a single prop map, you can manually build a number of images, each changing slightly in brightness, then converting those images into an animated .gif. Then convert that animated .gif into a Flash .swf file you can apply to your prop.

Smoothly varying the brightness of an entire scene either can't be done, or requires the service of a Flash magician, far more skilled in the inner workings of RLC scripts and hooks than this poor boy Smile

If you're going the animated .gif route, I can advise and assist.

I'll be very interested to see if any magicians show up in this thread. You've asked a pretty darned good question.

Good luck!

Joe

Thanks Joe - its just a simple sphere I'm looking to animate - and the effect look so much more awesome than a simple strobe.

Thank you so much for your help. x

I can imagine what you want to have. But I don't think this can be done with the way how the RLC client uses emitting light sources.
You can do it for the surface of a single prop, like Joe_B explained, but this have no influence on other objects within the visual proximity.

I can imagine that you are maybe able to create a "fake light environment" within the prop editors available tools.
But you would need to be able to synchronize it to have the desired effect of a gradually pulsing light source which affects it's environment as well.
Basically 1 visible prop as fake "lightsurce" + the invisible real light source that does illuminate avatars and other objects within visual proximity.

I hope this made sense - in english lol Smile

However, should someone find a working and FPS friendly solution - I would be very interested as well Wink
Can't imagine how this would look with the dance floor in my own club Tongue
