I have been attempting and so far succeeding in turning this into a decent joystick but I have got to say this is one messy prop. I have erased a lot of what I want erased but it has removed things I didn't want removed.

ok update it ain't going to work darnit. Erasing what I need to erase leaves holes that won't convert to the trunk. So I need to look for something else.

Elmer, take a look at this thread for the suggestions therein as your issue was pretty much DurtyJay's issue:

thanks Dusty for bringing that thread back to mind. There's a couple of ideas in there that I think I might try later.

Yeah, *giggles* don't be a stubborn ahole like my silly butt Elmer(not saying you areSmile ), you end up just giving yourself a migraine and wasting time. Not sure what kind of joystick you're trying to do, but check out the long pole, or rlc long pole... Can't remember the exact name, it's a long pole with a ball at the top... Or maybe do a primitive cone+ sphere+ pedestal or possibly look at the hm_remote( the thingy you hold when your partner is having fun on a sex toy) I'm probably wrong on the name.

gday Elmer

the problem with the gnarly oak is that it is not a clean prop map for editing

if you have a look at the meshmap (taken directly off the model file) below you will see it has an overlap component (bit in red) so you will always get issues with it....

cheers

So that's the dam area that causes me a few problems. Lol. As to the kind of joystick look to a gaming joystick similar to a flight simulator joystick.

Yes but without all the bells and whistles. So that you can understand the use its for controlling an ROV.

Gotcha. If you are not using the bells and whistles stuff, then perhaps a cylinder prop would work?

At least you can restructure the map for it somewhat.

Good luck with it anyway.

Heyas elmer Smile hugsss ....

well, sorry, just realized this thread today, I was a bit busy yesterday so I havent seen it before.

Gnarly oak tree ... hmmmm ... to make a joystick .... hmmm ... for getting finally a control board ... for an ROV ..... hmmmmm

what ... if you take the texture shown below? I just happened to develope this for you ....

may be ... this will help you.

Of course, the controlboard as well as the joy sticks can be designed as desired by you.

I made just an example, so ... in case you want there be pink buttons instead of the red ones ....

or if you want to add illuminated numbers of any measuring instrument digital measuring instrument

or analog measuring instruments .... thats all left in your hands

Design the control board just as desired.

Here's the prop map for:

Attach it to the prop: Arcade Game black ....

the left rest you need to do ... such as eventually unlit ... definitely translucent ... you do know that very well, dont you? LOL

Kind regards, divingA

Heyas Elmer,

here I am again, one more time.

You really seduced me .... the gnarly oak tree ... hmmm ...

well, of course I might be absolutely wrong with my assumption ... but I've read somewhere ROV .... to me that sounds for just one place where you could use that.

So i tried a few things and this is, what I arranged so far. I don't know of it is a help, but I am sure of that I worked with the gnarly oak tree too there, you might not see it clearly, but once you're there and start your editor, you'll get the oak tree to see Whistle

Kind regards, divingA ... returning now to fashion items Grin

Perhaps post a pic of an actual joystick from RL so we can see what you are looking for. Wonder if a showerhead or sink faucet might do the trick? Maybe Wraith has a map for that you can use or manipulate? Sh*t, I made a wine bottle rack outta a wooden pallets, wine glass racks outta table legs and commercial dishrack outta railroad tracks. Anything is possible without much effort.

Im always up for a challenge LOL Grin

Still working on the "empty" wine glasses lol

Have you tried one of the faucet props? They make pretty good joystick-like objects. . .

Jus farting around... clockhand scale .21/1.56/.29 or so and rotation 0/0/270 sorta resembles a railroad spike with a knob on top or a shifter. I'll keep looking.

Also check out chef hat scale .2/1/.2 or microphone might be easiest to make. Think outside the box too, an octopus head or inverted horse hoof might work too if you texture the maps correctly. Also ceiling fan stationary section and dumbbell, but a pic of the control stick would really help the search. If all else fails, jam a microphone into an HM_Control box and be done with it LOL Grin
