Bought new skin but it won't let me "apply" it to my avi

I bought new skin but when I try to apply it to my avi I get an error message that says:

"You cannot apply a 'New' outfit when you are currently wearing a 'Legacy' outfit on your Avatar"

I have tried everything to figure out what this means and how to correct it. I have a new style avi and I have even stripped it naked and then tried to apply.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!Brick wall

There are 2 types of avatars, in this game:
New style and the older one, Lagacy style.
To avoid problems concerning clothing compatibility,
next time you'll try to purchase items from Utherverse Clothing System
try to use the SEARCH feature (at top left of page)
and CHOOSE the corresponding type,
for your avatars default style (par example: New Style).
Now when you buy items they will match your avatars style.
If you want to try to apply your new skin,
you must CHANGE your avatar to LEGACY STYLE first
*by un-checking the small square with the sign "New Style Avatar"
(its red inside, click to make it blank)
this small square is at the lower end
of the INSIDE THE GAME clothing customization

Then you go to your purchased Legacy Skin (in your profile's Clothing)
You click "apply"
The Outfit window opens.
Before you go at end of page and press "apply outfit",
you can choose to "reset outfit":
This repairs some glitches from changing your new style avatar to legacy).
After resetting legacy avatar, you choose now "apply outfit" and..
Here you are, wearing your new skin!
There are more tricks there, like using a naked legacy outfit,

So your avatar will be ready to wear
ANY legacy outfit, without any residuals

Next step is to turn your legacy avatar to new style
but some details of the skin will be lost.

Try this.

Go in world to the clothing editor, in the bottom left corner is a check box, I think it says New style Avatar next to it. If it is unchecked check it. Then save it as an outfit. Apply that outfit to your avatar. You should then be able to apply your new style skin to your avatar.
